Teachers

Support starts with awareness.

School Mental Health Services seeks to overcome challenges that parents and students have faced in the past when trying to get access to the support they need on their own. By implementing mental health education and awareness in our classrooms, we can guide them through our program that offers support right in their school.

Region 6 Behavioral Health Care has received the ability to implement the SMHS program through a SAMHSA System of Care Grant, creating an innovative approach to identifying and working through behavioral and mental health challenges. It utilizes collaborative efforts from teachers, parents, school counselors, administrators, and professional mental health service providers to address students’ needs.

How to Help a Student

There are several key elements to a comprehensive school mental health program that, as an educator, you can support.

Awareness & Education

As educators, you can help decrease stigma related to mental health by spreading awareness, making natural connections to your content, and recognizing the signs and symptoms in your students.

Early Detection and Connection

As an educator, you know your students! When you recognize a change in behavior, you can connect them to resources for support including School Mental Health Services.
